This Week in Mustache

Getting to Love Our Growers

Chicago’s Mustaches for Kids is celebrating its final week of growing! Don’t miss your opportunity to be part of something big and hairy. Visit our Gallery of Growers, and select the Mustache you’d like to sponsor by making an online donation to Off The Street Club today. Better yet, join us at our finale:

Monday, December 17, 2007, 7:30-11pm
Subterranean, 2011 North Ave.
Featuring performances by Bird Ate My Donut and Animate Objects
$5 - all profits go to Off The Street Club!
Doors at 7:30 for the public, Growers arrive at 7 for sign-in.

The dash for the best ’stache and the most cash concludes at this must-see PARADE OF MUSTACHES. Yes, our fierce Growers are going to grin and bear it (bare it?) as they go head-to-head vying for your undying love, your wallet and the title of Sweetest ‘Stache. Post-mustache-pageant, the mustachioed musicians of Bird Ate My Donut will take the stage, followed by headliners Animate Objects! Hosted by Aspiring World Beard & Moustache Championship Contestant Jeremy Scheuch.

In the meantime, check out our week three mustaches:

It’s the Dash for the Cash!

This is our final week to raise funds for Off The Street Club. We really hope to meet our $15,00 fund-raising goal, so please take a moment to contribute today. Help our Growers hit their fund-raising targets and you’ve helped us seal our victory over the Houston Chapter of Mustaches for Kids all while making a much appreciated donation to Off The Street Club, Chicago’s oldest boys and girls club.

A Motivational Moment

We don’t really know what to make of this apparent “stache-like bash”, but it certainly celebrates the mustache. This video also celebrates that while we’ve been seriously raising funds for our charity, we’ve also been having fun! And, it’s what you’ll find if you search youtube for “mustaches+final+countdown”…

Mustache Week in Review

Getting to Know Our Growers

Chicago’s Mustaches for Kids is celebrating its second week of growing in most staching fashion. Visit our Gallery of Growers, and select the Mustache you’d like to sponsor. If you don’t have a favorite Grower, come out and find one. Our next Weekly Checkpoint will be at 7pm on Monday, December 10 at Rockit Bar & Grill, 22 W Hubbard St., and will be hosted by Aspiring World Beard & Moustache Championship Contestant Jeremy Scheuch.

An extra special thanks to T’s on Clark for hosting Checkpoint One. Through their generous donation of a percentage of the evening’s sales, we raised hundred of dollars for Off The Street Club! Eamon’s world famous Mustache Ride Shots brought in a few hundred more.

And now introducing the two week old mustache…

Our Sponsors, Our Friends

Mike Jozwik (boss of M4K Chicago Grower Phil Fox) donated $100 to Off The Street Club during our second week of growing. We can see why Mike is so fond of our fund-raising endeavor. And, perhaps fellow Grower Steven Pate aka 588 2300 Empire Strikes Back hopes he can borrow Mike’s outfit for ‘Stache Bash 2007?

A Motivational Moment

Chicago Grower Nick Brandfon hasn’t been lacking for friends since his stache came in. But when a delightful first snow hit the windy city during Week 2, he couldn’t resist the chance to make one more special friend. Meet Nick & Melty Mustache - BFF 4Kids.

Our newest Grower is so cool…and we know he’d never help out Houston.

All in the Family

This Holiday Season, the Mustaches for Kids - Chicago 2007 Growers are not only raising funds for Off The Street Club, they’re also reminding us to stay true to our roots…

For instance, Grower Jon Dold has a lot to be thankful for with genes like this:

Jon Dold's Father

As does Grower Joe B., whose dad Thaddeus put the class in mustache before Baby Joe B. was even born:

Joe Baker's Father

Meanwhile, Grower Joe Ciotti’s fine-looking father (left) and Uncle Randy (right) demonstrate that the mustache was just dandy not too long ago. Surely Mustaches for Kids will soon convince society that mustaches are not only charitable, they’re once again fashionable.

Joe Ciotti's Father and Uncle Randy

We hope you’ll remember what’s really important this Growing Season - mustaches! Specifically, mustaches grown for the children of Chicago’s Off The Street Club. Fathers everywhere should grow mustaches and raise kids that grow up to be fine young men that grow mustaches for kids.

Root one (or more) of these gentlemen on, and sponsor a mustache today. While a PayPal donation may prove to be most convenient, we encourage sponsors to contact their favorite Growers and pledge their support. If you don’t have a favorite Grower, come out and find one. Please consider contributing; five dollars, twelve dollars, fifty dollars…every cent goes to Off The Street Club.

Smooth Operators

Our Mustaches for Kids - Chicago 2007 Growing Season started with a scratch and a scream as Growers Antar Jackson (aka Stachin’ Action Jackson), Eamon Daly (aka Stache Gordon) and Karl Lobring (aka Buck Dharma) allowed themselves to be shaved before a live-at-Schubas audience and Patrick Hartney, a camera man for WBBM CBS 2 Chicago.

Yes, that’s right, we made the 10 o’clock news:

The evening was filled with many smooth-faced and charitable gents as we welcomed quite a few new Growers to the scene - the exact number of which shall remain secret since we must practice strategery and shenanigans against our cunning foes: the Houston Chapter of Mustaches for Kids. Thinking that fierce rivalry might drive the inaugural Houston Chapter into a most successful first year, we most graciously decided to help them out by offering a challenge. They’ve accepted, offered us back a few slurs, and now we must band together to Mess With Texas.

Windy City Citizens: won’t you help these upstanding gentlemen (who are bravely risking personal ridicule and financial ruin to raise money for the children of Off The Street Club this holiday season) protect our city’s honor?

Do your part and become a Grower today! It’s never too late to Register (hesitation might hinder your chance of winning a prize at ‘Stache Bash and puts a little pressure on your fund-raising effort). Tell your friends about us, tell the world about us. And of course, consider sponsoring a Mustache.

Growers of Chicago Unite

Kicking off week three, the Mustaches for Kids community converged at Inn Joy this last Monday night for Mustache Checkpoint #2. With Stache Bash 2006 just one week off, Growers shared their fundraising expectations and personal adjectives best desribing their now-public Mustaches. The Mustache landscape was not only both swarthy and adolescent, but also complex and punk. (Mustache-specific detail will be provided later today.)

Whilst the mustachioed evening exuded an unsurprising (though non-sanctioned) Bear-love for American football, much of our time together was dedicated to sizing-up the competitiion. Rumour has it, one Ace even stooped to warming the hearts of on-hand Official Judges with gifts of faux-staches.

Below, please take a peek at Mustache Checkpoint #1 hangers-on.

Mustache Checkpoint #1

Monday Night! (December 4th)
Lincoln Tap Room at 8p

Chicago’s Mustaches for Kids community is kicking off week two of its inaugural growing season Monday night. Everyone’s welcome! Join us, as Growers recount their mustaches’ first seven days, discuss sponsorship strategy…and, reveal names for what or may not yet resemble mustaches.

Not growing a Mustache? That’s OK, you can still contribute - we’re always looking for donations. Better yet, come out and support your favourite Grower with a pint, or an in-person pledge. Don’t have a favourite Grower? Come out and find one!
(you do, after all, know where to find them.)

Also, Mustache Checkpoint #2 is Monday, December 11th at Inn Joy.
