Chicago’s Mustaches for Kids celebrated its first week of hair-raising fund-raising on the evening of Monday, November 26th. Check out our increasingly hirsute Gallery of Growers, and don’t delay in selecting the Mustache you’d like to sponsor. If you don’t have a favorite Grower, come out and find one. Our next Mustache Checkpoint will be at 7pm, Monday, December 3, 2007 at T’s, 5025 N. Clark St. This will be a great opportunity to befriend Growers, and the most generous T’s will give 10% of our food and beverage sales back to Mustaches for Kids! Partake in a “mustache ride” shot and purchase a commemorative Polaroid of the experience (proceeds benefit Off The Street Club).
And now introducing the one week old mustache…
Our Sponsors, Our Friends
Our Growers had an especially thankful Thanksgiving as the past week offered them their first chance to collect donations for Off The Street Club. Key contributors this week included a $250 donation in sponsorship of Sir William Throckmorton’s budding moustache (this generous lady wishes to remain anonymous). Tom Lubin helped Stache Gordon in his dash for the cash with a donation of $151.01. Mike Maher (Orlando, FL) and the Le-Bruno Family (Boston, MA) tied in a Thanksgiving bid for Dandy Lion Fluff’s undying devotion with donations of $50 each. Kathy Maxwell contributed $40 to our resident Captain of Industry. And, Betsy Carnahan, eased Growzer the Growzarian $25 closer to his goal. In addition to sponsoring Mustaches, Betsy enjoys dancing with friends regularly at “Arturo’s” mexican restaurant and road trips down private back-roads in the Appalachian mountains.
A Motivational Moment
To quote, Timothy, founder of Chicago’s Chapter of Mustaches for Kids:
A man’s relationship with his seven-day-old mustache can be delicate. A man’s relationship with a desire to eliminate his seven-day-old mustache simply should not be.
The one week juncture can inflict all manners of unspeakable self-doubt. Growers have been known to lock themselves inside for days. We hope this short inspirational clip will inspire our dear Growers to face the day with pride, this experience is not just for kids, it’s for sheer glory! Love thy mustache…
With Growing Season almost upon us, the more…the hairier! There are only a few more days to sign up as an Official Grower for Mustaches for Kids 2007. Please register today to help us gear up for Shaving Day on November 19th, and tell a friend to do the same. We need every Grower we can mustache…er…muster to help us reach our $15,000 fundraising goal.
The Mustaches for Kids community hopes that everyone is having a great December. It is, after all, a busy month.
Mustache Checkpoint #1 (Dec 4th); Pearl Harbor Day (Dec 7th); : Mustache Checkpoint #2 (Dec 11th); Chanukah (Dec 16th); Stache Bash 2006 (Dec 18th); Winter Solstice (Dec 21st - shortest day of the year!); Christmas (Dec 25th); Kwanzaa (Dec 26th); Boxing Day (Dec 27th)…
But, don’t forget about the kids this holiday season. Before the month bests you, we encourage you to acknowledge the fact that you can help enrich the lives of children. Please consider joining the many who’ve already contributed to the frenzied joy of Chicago’s first Mustaches for Kids campaign.
We’re almost two weeks into our growing season, and nearly forty local Growers have been collecting pledges for Chicago’s oldest boys & girls club. But we need your help! Whilst some find mustachioed-life trying, growing the official M4K Mustache (see Rules 2-4) can prove even more difficult.
Though Growers find inspiration under many of life’s rocks, it is important to recall that our Mustache success hinges on the extent to which we can help children. So, please consider contributing; five dollars, twelve dollars, fifty dollars…every cent goes to Off the Street Club.
While a PayPal donation may prove to be most convenient, we encourage sponors to contact their favourite Growers and pledge their support. If you don’t have a favourite Grower, come out and find one. Interested in re-connecting with a Grower, or M4K community leader you met on the train? Send us a note.
We’re six days into Chicago’s first growing season, and the results are conclusive: Mustache Loves Company. Since Monday’s Shaving Day Romp at Schubas, we’ve enlisted new Growers on a daily basis. And, early response indicates that Chicago loves the Mustaches for Kids proposition.
M4K Handles Revealed!
To alleviate growing confusion and nurture the collegial spirit of our Mustaches for Kids growing season, each Grower was encouraged to adopt an M4K Handle (a mustache alias, if you will).

=====
Volunteer “Growers” will eliminate pre-existing facial hair and, over the course of four weeks, nurture sweet, manly Mustaches. In observance of Chicago’s irony-free Mustache, the Mustaches for Kids communitywill seek pledges and secure donations for the benefit of Chicago’s oldest boys and girls club - Off the Street Club.

A keen and jolly lot of principled Growers have already committed themselves to Chicago’s inaugural Mustaches for Kids proposition. However, as we can never have too much Mustache, we’re looking to fatten the roster. We also encourage the input/participation of philanthropists, Mustache enthusiasts, community leaders, and anyone interested in Chicago’s Mustaches for Kids community.
