Mustache Checkpoint #2

Week Three.
Philosophically proven to be a pivotal period in any hair-raising venture, Week Three of the Mustaches for Kids growing season, which starts today (Monday 11-Dec), will be no exception.

Tonight’s Mustache Checkpoint #2 promises to be our most rewarding event yet. Join us at Inn Joy (8p - 2051 W Division, in Ukrainian Village), as Growers meet one last time prior to Stache Bash 2006.

This final checkpoint provides Growers a chance to recount (and re-double!) their fundraising efforts - and serves as a harbinger of next week’s mustache pageantry.

In most cases, Growers’ mustaches will have asserted themselves. And, insight into thus-far individual pledge-driving efforts will be discussed. In concert, these topics are expected to provide reliable platform for speculation regarding next week’s awards:

“Abe Froman of Mustache” - Top Fundraiser
“Sweetest Stache” - Best Mustache
“Honorable Mention” - Worst Mustache
“Mr Mustache” - Best-Fitting Mustache
“Mr Congeniality” - Mr Congeniality

We hope to see you tonight!

Me and My Mustache

A man’s relationship with his seven-day-old mustache can be delicate.
A man’s relationship with a desire to eliminate his seven-day-old mustache simply should not be.

In this spirit, Checkpoint #1 offered Growers an opportunity to reveal names for what, in many cases, resembled mustaches. Growers were encouraged to select names that both celebrated the passion with which they’d lived week one and recognised the fact that our organisation exists as Mustaches for Kids – Not Mustaches at Kids.

Below, find a catalogue of Growers who’ve selected names for their probable mustaches.

joe baker / The Guillotine

It’s for the Kids.

The Mustaches for Kids community hopes that everyone is having a great December. It is, after all, a busy month.

Mustache Checkpoint #1 (Dec 4th)Pearl Harbor Day (Dec 7th); : Mustache Checkpoint #2 (Dec 11th); Chanukah (Dec 16th); Stache Bash 2006 (Dec 18th); Winter Solstice (Dec 21st - shortest day of the year!); Christmas (Dec 25th); Kwanzaa (Dec 26th); Boxing Day (Dec 27th)…

But, don’t forget about the kids this holiday season. Before the month bests you, we encourage you to acknowledge the fact that you can help enrich the lives of children. Please consider joining the many who’ve already contributed to the frenzied joy of Chicago’s first Mustaches for Kids campaign.

We’re almost two weeks into our growing season, and nearly forty local Growers have been collecting pledges for Chicago’s oldest boys & girls club. But we need your help! Whilst some find mustachioed-life trying, growing the official M4K Mustache (see Rules 2-4) can prove even more difficult.

Though Growers find inspiration under many of life’s rocks, it is important to recall that our Mustache success hinges on the extent to which we can help children. So, please consider contributing; five dollars, twelve dollars, fifty dollars…every cent goes to Off the Street Club

While a PayPal donation may prove to be most convenient, we encourage sponors to contact their favourite Growers and pledge their support. If you don’t have a favourite Grower, come out and find one. Interested in re-connecting with a Grower, or M4K community leader you met on the train? Send us a note.

Remember, everyone is welcome at every M4K event.

Mustache Fever. Catch it!

Growing Season Update

We’re six days into Chicago’s first growing season, and the results are conclusive: Mustache Loves Company. Since Monday’s Shaving Day Romp at Schubas, we’ve enlisted new Growers on a daily basis. And, early response indicates that Chicago loves the Mustaches for Kids proposition.

M4K Update: Shaving Day!

The four-week Mustaches for Kids growing season begins this Monday (November 27th). Join us for a Shaving Day Romp at Schubas Upstairs at 9p.

Our Shaving Day celebration provides potential Growers (and the interested public) a chance to meet official Growers and discuss program details with M4K representatives.

AND, importantly, Shaving Day regulations level the growing field: Growers will shave their faces - removing all pre-existing facial hair, including Mustaches, beards, and aggressive sideburns. (See Rules)

Shaving Day officially begins at 12:01a (Monday, 27-Nov) – Midnight Mustache Madness, if you will. Growers are encouraged to share a ceremonious shave with loved ones…and required to shave at some point after the onset of Monday and before our kick-off event (9p).

No Pre-Registration Required.
Simply shave on Monday and stop by to see what all the fuss is about. However, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

We hope to see you there - after all, Mustache loves company.

There’s no I in “Mustache.”
But there
is one in “Lip Rug.”
And there are
five in “I like it. It suits you.”
